Undergraduate English Degrees: 2009 Entry
Our undergraduate English programme is designed to introduce you to the various subjects embraced by English studies, while allowing you to specialise in an area of particular interest to you.
Year 1 Whichever course you choose, your first semester will act as a ‘foundation', during which you can explore a variety of areas before confirming your chosen routeway (named award) in semester two. Modules designed to develop basic research and presentation skills are embedded into every course.
Year 2 of the programme consolidates your knowledge in your chosen area through period, practical and/or theoretical studies while giving you options outside it such as Creative Writing, Children's Fiction, Postcolonial Writing and Language and Social Identity.
Year 3 of our programme allows you to branch out into further core and optional modules, such as Black British Writing, Corpus Linguistics and Playing the Past, and everyone gets the chance to complete an Independent Project on a critical, practical or creative topic.
Please note, all of our undergraduate courses are currently being revalidated.
