About the Socrates - Erasmus Scheme
All English undergraduates studying at Birmingham City University can opt to take part in the Erasmus scheme, allowing you to study for around five months abroad at one of our partner institutions.
As an Erasmus student, you will be eligible for a grant to cover some of your extra costs. You will not have to pay any tuition fees to the host institution.
What you Can Gain by Participating in the Scheme:
- With so many graduates entering the employment market, it's very difficult to give your CV that additional 'edge'. In fact, fewer than 5% of UK students currently take advantage of the Erasmus scheme. Studying abroad can really make you stand out from the crowd!
- Why not use your University experience to the full? Participating in the scheme will broaden your horizons, help you to experience new cultures, and build up your contacts.
- All of our partner universities offer English-speaking courses - so you don't have to be fluent in a foreign language. Language skills need not be a barrier to building an international dimension to your degree!
- Taking part will not extend the time of your degree - you will still study a total of three years, full time.
- A lot of the subjects you will cover in your overseas institution will help you in your final year at Birmingham City University.
- In some countries, the cost of living is a lot cheaper than in the UK.
Further Details and How to Apply
If you are interested in applying for the Erasmus-Socrates scheme, it is important to register your interest in your first year, on arrival at Birmingham City University. Placements usually take part in the second semester of the second year of study. Contact Professor Antoinette Renouf for more details.
Before travelling to a partner institution, students will be provided with assistance in applying for accommodation in Halls of Residence.
