How to get to the symposium

Location

The symposium is taking place at the Apollo Hotel in Hagley Road Edgbaston Birmingham B16 9R. Use this link for a map of the area:

International flights

If you are travelling by air, you are strongly advised to fly into Birmingham International Airport, rather than London Heathrow.

From Birmingham International Airport to Birmingham city centre

A taxi from the airport to central Birmingham takes about 30 mins depending on traffic conditions (cost £30 approx.). Another option is to catch the (very fast) Air-Rail monorail link to Birmingham International Station, then an ordinary train to Birmingham New Street Station. Total travelling time should be about 25 minutes.

From London Heathrow Airport to Birmingham city centre

Take the Underground to Euston/Euston Square. Trains run every 1 hour approx. The journey takes about 90 minutes. Book tickets in advance or travel at off-peak times (9:30-3:30) to avoid paying top price fares.

Alternatively, a Rail Air coach runs approx. every 20 mins during the day from the Central Bus Station at Heathrow to Reading Railway Station. From here, Virgin trains to Birmingham New Street run about every 30 mins-1hr. Book train tickets in advance or travel at off-peak times (9.30-3.30) to avoid paying top price fares.

National Express buses run from the Central Bus Station at Heathrow to Birmingham Digbeth Bus Station, taking about four hours. This is the least expensive way to travel to Birmingham from Heathrow.

From B’ham New Street station to the Apollo Hotel.

Buses Nos. 9, 138 or 139 run from Colmore Row, a fairly short walk from New Street Station, along Broad Street and Hagley Road. Ask for the Norfolk Road stop, which is opposite the Apollo Hotel. The journey should take around 15-20 mins outside exceptionally congested times of day.

Taxis can be found outside Birmingham New Street Station in the main station forecourt.

To get to the symposium by road

From the M6: Leave at junction 6 and take A38(M) to City Centre. Go over the flyover and through only one tunnel. On leaving the tunnel, indicate left, keep in the nearside lane and drive up the parallel running slip road (Gt. Charles Street) to the Paradise Circus roundabout. Take the 2nd exit (A456 to Kidderminster), drive along Broad Street to the Five Ways roundabout where you use the underpass. The Apollo Hotel is 3/4 mile further up on the right.

From M40 Oxford and South : Arrive on the M42 and travel west towards the M5. Travel north on the M5 leaving at Junction 3. From M5 South-West Leave the M5 at Junction 3 and travel towards Birmingham City Centre along the A456 (Hagley Road) for 4 miles. The Apollo Hotel is on the left hand side nearly opposite TGI Fridays.

Car Parking

The Apollo Hotel has plenty of free car parking spaces.
