Professor Morag MacDonald is currently both Director of the Centre for Research into Quality (CRQ) at Birmingham City University and seconded to the Centre for Criminal Justice Policy and Research.

Morag's PhD research was a comparative study of the implementation of HIV, AIDS and drugs policies in the Italian and English and Welsh prison systems. Her expertise in the areas of prisons and related health issues, and social research methodology make her a welcome addittion to the CCJPR team.

Projects

Morag put together the bid which allowed the Centre to gain monies from the AGIS European Funding program to investigate the experiences of people with problematic drug and alcohol use whilst in police detention.

Morag will work with Susie Atherton to undertake the research.The study will look at problematic drug and alcohol users (PDAUs) and the services available to them during police detention in the European Union (EU). The project is worth £210,000 over 18 months – with AGIS contributing some £148,000.
