Bio & Interests

Jane Hill has worked at Birmingham City University for eleven years and teaches on BA Sociology programmes, MA Research methodology and MA Criminal Justice Policy and Practice. Her teaching has covered most major areas of sociology with special interests in crime and the social construction of 'deviance' as well as research methodology.

Jane graduated as a mature student and went on to gain a Graduate teaching Assistantship at Keele University in 1990. At Keele, Jane taught social policy and began researching the issue of inter-agency cooperation in relation to child abuse, which was the subject of her PhD thesis.

Jane's research, with Graham Wright, has investigated the processes by which young people are marginalised by the discourses of community safety. Jane and Graham are now researching and writing on the potential for Restorative Justice in the current UK policy context.

More recently Jane worked on the final stage of the Just Justice project, on behalf of the Children’s Society, which charted young black people’s experiences through-out the CJS. The report will be launched in February 2006
